Silda Jazz 2017

Next week we are heading off to the Silda Jazz Festival in Haugesund, Norway. We’re looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting some new ones. Last year was a real blast, this festival is like a home from home for us!

What do you love about playing with The Brasshoppers?: The Vibe / Good energy on Stage – you feel fully supported, such a great bunch of guys.

What annoys you the most about The Brasshoppers?: Trying to get anything done. ?

Musical Influences: I love them all for different reasons.

If you were a movie character who would you be?: It’s got to be – Jason Bourne – ha, ha!

Half full or half empty: Well, I probably drank the other half so it’s all good!

With or without?: Without – less is more

Major or minor?: A minor/C major (they’re both the same). Before you ask yes I do have my grade 8 theory – don’t start

Description: The unmovable, unshakable, monster groove maker.

What do you love about playing with The Brasshoppers: It’s the most interesting bunch of guys for all the wrong reasons!

What annoys you most about The Brasshoppers: It’s the most interesting bunch of guys for all the wrong reasons! ?

Musical influences: I like melody, rhythm, and harmony.. anything without these 3 can move along. That said, I love mostly performing with singers and singing backing vocals.

If you were a movie character who would you be?: Richard Pryor in stir crazy (character name – Harry)

Name: Richard Fox

Instrument: Tuba

Description: The funky low end rumble that is the foundation of The Brasshoppers

What do you love about playing with The Brasshoppers?: They groove like no other band. The boundless energy, enthusiasm and creativity is infectious.

What annoys you most about The Brasshoppers?: ‘Where’s the van key?’

Musical influences: Lester Bowie Brass Fantasy, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Tchaikovsky, Tower of Power, Bobby McFerrin, Shostakovich, Wynton Marsalis, R. Strauss, Oren Marshall, Keith Jarrett, Mahler…..
